Child sexual abuse is a horrific, life-altering crime. While 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys experience sexual abuse during childhood, the vast majority of children will never receive legal justice from a courtroom. Of reported cases, less than 1 in 5 made it to prosecution. Only half of those resulted in a conviction or guilty plea.
So how can a lawyer help you? Lawyers who specialize in child sexual abuse cases can assist victims in both criminal and civil proceedings. If the Prosecutor did not press charges, or successfully press charges, filing a civil complaint may provide justice that the child-victim deserves. Contact a lawyer in your state to find out if your child will benefit from legal representation.
The National Crime Victim Bar Association maintains a nationwide network of attorneys who are dedicated to helping victims of crime rebuild their lives through the Civil Justice system. If you are the victim of a crime and are interested in receiving a referral for a civil attorney, please visit site.
